The first thing to understand is that there are two Nyamo comics being released simultaneously on this website. First is the normal strip, which is updated every Sunday. This is the standard, full-paged, "left to right", "top to bottom" comic. Full of gags, but tied together by dynamic characters and a fluid story. Then there is Original Nyamo, which is updated sporadically on Thursdays (sometimes you'll see random art, but usually you'll get an Original Nyamo.) These strips are to allow us to update frequently, while avoiding more work than we can handle. Anyway, that comic is based on the original nyamo strips by Anthony and are much more simplistic than its counterpart. They're four panel strips, read from top to bottom. Now for their individual story lines. ~NYAMO STORY~ Nyamo is settled into her junior college life. She's excelling in her classes, enjoying her free time, and best of all, the student body loves her! Except for Scott. Scott used to be the highest scoring student at NorthEastern until Nyamo showed up. Now, due to all the people cheating off of her, he's struggling just to keep decent scores. Scott has made his decision... he's going to get rid of Nyamo and get back on top! Fun and Hilarity ensue in Nyamo: The Girl from Across the Sea! PART 1:      Like many students around the world, Nyamo had always dreamed of attending the prestigious North Eastman University in America. When the time came, she nervously applied and waited the long and grueling months for her reply. Until finally... ACCEPTANCE! She quickly left her home and made the long and periously journey across the sea in her rice barrel.       With no money or support, very limited supplies, and a very naive psyche, how will Nyamo manage? And what will she do when she realizes that she applied and was accepted to, not the foreigner's dream school, but to the nearby, yet totally different, Northeastern Junior College? Fun and Hilarity ensue in Nyamo: The Girl from Across the Sea! PART 2:      Nyamo made a periolous journey far across the sea in a rice barrel to attend the prestigious North Eastman University only to discover she mistakenly sign enrolled in the neighboring, but vastly different, North Eastern Junior College. Resigning herself to the exclusive transfer program, Nyamo enjoys her first days of school with her brand-new friend Roxy. However, trouble lurks in the horizon: Scott, the Curve Smasher, has no desire to lose his reputation as number 1 to some big-eyed foreigner! Fun and Hilarity ensue in Nyamo, the Girl from Across the Sea! PART 3:      Nyamo came to America for university, but she's beginning to accept the junior college she mistakenly enrolled in. She continues to enjoy more care-free days, meeting new friends, but those days are short lived. Nyamo faces her first college midterms! However, her classmates seem far more worried than she, but Roxy calms them with a plan she is sure will guarantee high scores. Fun and hilarity ensure in Nyamo, the Girl from Across the Sea. ~ORIGINAL NYAMO STORY~       The story is... well... there really isn't a story. There's just a premise, a premise that doesn't even play much of a role. Nyamo, a large-eyed foreigner, came from across the sea to attend a university only to realize she's just attending a junior college. Then... it just kinda goes on randomly. This strip is purely meant as a gag strip, for hopeful one-shot laughs... so there isn't any depth. It's modelled after the japanese 4 panel strips, and meant to be read and digested the same way. But... it's still supposed to make sense and not be insanely random... As a sidenote, in Original Nyamo, Nyamo attends Southwestern College. It's the JC that Anthony attends (attended pretty soon, hopefully) and is located in Chula Vista, California, USA. On Nyamo's sweater are the characters "Sa Hu", which is meant to parody Southwestern's logo of "SW". Just a tidbit of info. ~NYAMO ORIGINS~       To finish up, I'll briefly discuss where the idea for Nyamo came from. Sometime in 2002, I (Jed) had lent Anthony a bunch of Azumanga Daioh episodes (yup, I download a lot of anime... mostly for collection purposes though nowadays as school is so busy. Opened a distro site though (see links)! haha... but I haven't even watched most of the AzuDaioh episodes I lent him...)       Anthony, bored out of his mind in Math class, started to sketch in his notebook. He decided to experiment drawing Azumanga Daioh type eyes. Being the creative artist he is, instead of making the eyes of his character white, he colored them in dark. Then he decided it was a parody of the sterotype of asian small eyes. Therefore, Nyamo became a foreigner. Then he thought up the premise and made a few comic strips. Isn't amazing how productive math can be? Yeah, I didn't think so.       Well, he didn't really touch it too much afterwards, besides showing her off to a few friends. The idea was revisited late 2002 when we decided to make some sort of webcomic for fun. Anthony showed Nyamo to me, and I really liked the idea. The original premise stayed, but many new ideas were introduced to create the work you currently see here. We spent a lot of energy on it, so we very much hope that you enjoy it.
